Question by : What are the regulations regarding bringing betta fish from US to Canada?
I live in Canada and recently lost my two betta fish. I now have an empty 10 gallon and want to get a new one. I was looking into some fin varieties that I can’t find in Canada (halfmoon, double-tail, etc) and know that the Petco in Bellingham might have some. Are there any specific regulations that could prohibit me from taking a day trip to Petco, and then bringing a fish back into Canada?

Your not supposed to bring plants, animals and certian foods across the border because they may contain diseases that are not found in canada now so they don’t want them being brought here and causing an out break in the plant and animal populations here.

My friend and I are planning on going camping in two or three weeks..

We’re looking for a place that’s near a lake or river, has a shower “indoors or out doors” and we can just camp out in our tents or stay in a cabin.

Anything with water sports, jet skis, fishing, ect. is a plus!

Has anyone traveled to Alaska and NOT spent an arm and a leg?

I was doing some research online and found a roundtrip by rail from Anchorage to Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge, 3 days, 2 nights and thought the price was good ($ 370 per person), then when you add in the airfare and a single activity like sportfishing, then you really start getting up there. I had not looked into a cruise because I just expect them to be high.

My hubby and I never took a honeymoon and we’ve always said that this would be the place to go so I started to look into it.

Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

well, depending on where you are from, airfare can be up to 1200 bucks or more!!
The rail trip into Denali is well worth what they quoted you. its a very nice trip and the Princess lodge is nice and within walking distance from a “ghost town”. It’s only open from May to Sept. You get to see more wildlife from the train than you would on a car. Bring your camera!!!
There is also no sales tax here in Alaska (minus a few towns), but some things can run high in price.
Try websites like priceline.com and stuff for your airfare. Princess will pick you up from the airport.

We just came back from Jaco Costa Rica. We found a small cluster of sportfishing boats near costaricadreams.com they are great boats with big savings and excellent service. we went out on the 34 ft diamante a 10 ft beam , lots of cover. we hooked up 7 rooster fish. the full day cost us $ 695.00 We asked some of the bigger companies. The price were much higher. I understand overhead , Is there a rule of thumb for price of the sizes of boats. Or is all based on top shelf advertising ? anyone know. I love fishing with people who tell you how it is. We have been put on a list to stay informed as to when the fish are hitting. are there fishing reports , that are not a booking agency ? I want a straight answers. Also I saw and heard on the marine radio , these big boats breaking down , getting skunked. When you pay thousands of dollars , do you get your money back. Or do you just stay away from the older boats ? costaricafishingdeals.com booked us. It was super, a small water taxi took us out to a mooring, nice crew. fish. They said they would rather stay in if the fishing is not great. they also said they could suggest good boats from the beach & marina. Do you think that these bigger fleets will survive ? it certtainly looked like a slow year, I am going back again this year since I was able to shop a good deal.

Sport fishing and travel are both hurting during this economic crisis.. I note there was no funds for this in the recent economic stimulus bill. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal, and caught some fish…..i recommend that you use the booking agent you trust, and have a good trip. The Big boats will have to adjust if they want to survive…..

How about something to do with a fishing reel where the pole casts out a line and the reel pulls it back in and the drag setting on the reel keeps the line from getting broken when a big fish pulls on the line. It lets the line out but under control?
